Professor Wei Pan awarded Medal of Honour 2025

The 2025 Honours and Awards Presentation Ceremony of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) was held at the ballroom of the Government House on November 15. At the Ceremony, Professor Wei Pan of the Department of Civil Engineering of The University of Hong Kong was awarded "Medal of Honour" (MH) by the Chief Executive of the HKSAR, Mr John Lee. The award’s citation is as follows:

“Professor PAN is awarded MH in recognition of his contributions in the development of the construction industry, particularly in promoting the Modular Integrated Construction and nurturing young talent in the industry.”

Besides, Prof Pan’s research contribution has gained appreciation and recognition from the Chief Executive’s Policy Unit in facilitating policy discussion related to promoting the use of modular integrated construction to improve people's livelihood in Hong Kong.

About Professor Wei Pan

Professor Wei Pan is Head of Department of Civil Engineering of The University of Hong Kong, where he is also Executive Director of Centre for Innovation in Construction and Infrastructure Development (CICID), Director of MiC Laboratory (MiCLab) and Net Zero Laboratory. Moreover, he is President of the International Association for Modular Construction (IAMC), Board Director of the International Association for Automation and Robotics in Construction (IAARC), Chief Advisor of the Greater Bay Area (GBA) Smart Construction Technology Innovation Alliance, and Board Director of Hong Kong Building Technology Research Institute (BTRi).

Professor Pan is specialised in sustainable construction, with research interest covering modular integrated construction (MiC), prefabrication, construction automation and robotics, sustainable infrastructure, zero carbon building, and lifecycle assessment. Professor Pan has got a track record of over HK$150 million research funding, authored over 400 publications and supervised over 100 doctoral and post-graduate researchers.

About Medal of Honour

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Honours and Awards System was introduced since the establishment of the HKSAR on 1 July 1997 to give recognition to persons who have made an outstanding contribution to Hong Kong, or have rendered distinguished and devoted community or public service to Hong Kong, or who have personally excelled in their respective fields.

Medal of Honour was awarded to individuals in recognition of their long-term community service, either at the district level or within a specific field.
